New Thor Movie Swipes Volkswagen Commercial Idea

I don’t know about you guys but I think Volkswagen did a pretty great job with the Darth Vader commercial introducing the brand new 2012 Volkswagen Passat. It turns out the the guys at Marvel thought it was so good that they would use for their upcoming THOR movie as well. You tell me which one do you like better?

Will you be heading out to the theatre to see THOR when it comes out? I gotta be honest with ya….. I can’t wait to see it!

Official Reveal of the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle! See the pics!

Something very very awesome happened today….. The 2012 Volkswagen Beetle was finally revealed in all it’s glory at the 2011 New York International Auto Show. Up until now we have only see bit and pieces of photos of the car. We haven’t had a good chance to take a look at the interior. Check out what InsideLine had to say about it below.

So, what do think? Is this Beetle really “manly enough” to get you interested? It appears as though the increased masculinity is one of this Beetle’s noted selling points. There is clearly no definitive means of quantifying this Beetle’s man factor, but it is longer, wider and has a shorter roof line. All that helps.

Like just about everything else in VW’s lineup, the Beetle’s engine lineup will offer a base 2.5-liter five-cylinder, a 2.0-liter TDI and a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder. The 2.5 gets either a 5-speed manual or six-speed automatic while the diesel and turbocharged engines will offer a choice of a manual or DSG, both with six speeds.

Size wise, this Beetle is 3.3-inches wider, about a half an inch lower and six inches longer than the previous version. Two trim levels will be offered: Design and Sport. Pricing will be announced closer to the expected on sale date in late September. – InsideLine

Ok… So I know they aren’t the greatest shots of the interior but what do you guys think? Personally…. I can’t wait to see it in person!

New Volkswagen Beetle to Sport an Audi Engine?!

After five years, the second-generation New Beetle is set to debut at the Shanghai Motor Show in April and we are dying to see what’s been behind those sheets!

It has been rumored  that the Volkswagen New Beetle is much more sporty than the last design which was not as  popular with the male audience. But, now with those men in mind, VW thinks that the New Beetle may register on their radar.  And it’s also been rumored that the New Beetle may get the powerful 335-horsepower “W28″ in-line five-cylinder turbo engine, which is found in the Audi TT RS and the RS3, it seems as though Volkswagen is toying with the idea that there just may be market in North America for this Beetle with a sting!

The Beetle,” a source in Wolfsburg tells Autoblog, “is so much sportier now. It’s much more appealing to male buyers as well.” Some off-the-record remarks tell of a Beetle thus equipped that is better on the track than another VW R coupe that North America sadly still doesn’t get.

Our anticipation of the arrival of the New Beetle is through the roof!   If you’re a hardcore VW Beetle fan and if the New Beetle looks anything like that spy photograph at the top, are you still a fan?

About that auto show….

The 14th Auto Shanghai will host exhibitors from all over the world.  We will definitely do a recap of what the show brings and hopefully be able to provide pictures of the highly anticipated New Beetle!  If the New Beetle isn’t really you’re style, but the Volkswagen brand is, then come by Hiley VW today and check out a few models!

Volkswagen Folks Wax On, Wax Off….Not All Wax is Created Equal

Now that the warmer weather is on its way, I want to get my Volkswagen looking its best. And that means a great detail job on the inside followed by a great wash and wax on the outside.

I’m not one to shy away from a little work when it comes to waxing the VDub. In the end, it’s totally worth the blood, sweat and tears to keep the paint looking shiny. Well, ok, maybe it’s not that difficult…you get the idea.

So in regards to the wax. The wax matters. It matters so much, in fact, that the folks at Consumer Reports are doing this huge experiment on 19 different waxes. It’s still ongoing so I’m patiently waiting for the results. Their experiment has been going on for months now so hopefully it’s close to the end so we can get our wax on…no pun intended, well maybe a little.

There are many different types of waxes from liquid wax, paste wax, spray on wax to natural and synthetic waxes. The choices seem endless!  Depending on how much you want to wax each year are some factors you’ll want to consider before choosing a wax. For example, a natural wax (pretty expensive too) like Carnauba, which is from Brazil, needs to reapplied on a regular basis otherwise there may be possible damage to the paint.   If you really only have time to do one, maybe two wax applications then you should consider a synthetic wax.

Here’s a very detailed video on how to wax your car with Liquid Polymer Carnauba Wax:

Now this guy knows how his car waxing!   If you’re like me and just can’t wait to get your wax on, then here are some helpful tips on how to properly wax your vehicle:

  1. Don’t wax in the sun or if you’re vehicles paint is hot. Instead, park your car in a shady spot or wax during the early morning or evening, when it’s not too hot or cold out.
  2. Thoroughly wash and completely dry your vehicle before applying the was.
  3. We like to go with nonabrasive waxes. You can find out if they are abrasive or nonabrasive by reading the label on the wax of your choice.  You don’t want to scratch clear-coat and lacquer finishes
  4. It’s time to Wax On, Wax Off.  We recommend using a damp wax sponge. Dip it into the car wax, a little goes a long way, and begin to rub the wax in small circles. Avoid seams and jambs at all costs!
  5. Wax in sections. Once you’ve done the entire vehicle, the waxed are you started with will be ready to take off.
  6. Use a soft terry or microfiber cloth to remove the wax.
  7. Once all the was is off, double check it to make sure everything is gone. Then it’s time to get polishing!

Once we hear what Consumer Reports has concluded what is the most effect wax we will definitely let you know! What are some washing/waxing tips you have?

A needle in a haystack.  That is what this rare find is comparable to!   A 1978 Volkswagen Beetle Jubilee with only 40 miles on the odometer has just gone up on the auction block by the UK-based CVA Auctions.  And those miles are just delivery miles too.

This pristine 1978 VW Beetle is car number 214 of the last 300 built for the UK market.  And it has never been registered either which we think makes it even that much cooler.

“It is a 1200cc silver Jubilee model with a silver plaque stating it’s car number 214 of the last 300,” CVA Auctions boss Jim Ronan told uk.Autoblog. “It is in great condition as you would expect and we have all the relevant documentation should someone wish to put it on the road.” [Autoblog]

Maybe this ’78 VW Beetle will end up in a museum but we’re thinking that most likely it will fall into the hands of a serious car collector.  Per an EBay auction site the the ’78 VW Beetle Jubilee sold for 17000 pounds which is just over $24,000 US dollars. That’s a bargain if you ask us! We thought it would go for much more than that!

Weird and Wonderful Volkswagens

I love it when I stumble upon a video or article completely dedicated to Volkswagens. From the weird to the wonderful and everything in between. I just can’t get enough of it. And here’s the latest video I found via YouTube:

This video just shows how much people love their Volkswagens. And some of them are so amazingly creative. Would you put the front end of a VW microbus in your home as decoration?

And we can’t forget to mention the crazy Volkswagen Beetle modifications. From off-roading Beetles to lifted Beetle to dully wheeled Beetles, modifying these Beetles seems endless!  Or any Volkswagen for that matter although it does seems that the most Volkswagons that are modified are the Beetles and the Buses. Regardless, we loves to see the love of the Volkswagen and the creativity it brings out.

What are some crazy Volkswagen modification you’ve seen?  If you were going to modify a Volkswagen, which model would you choose and what would you do?

The World’s First Supercharged Hybrid…the All-new 2011 Volkswagen Touareg

Volkswagen is calling the all new-new 2011 VW Touareg a Rare Beast and we couldn’t agree more.I mean this new ’11 Touareg is a Supercharged Hybrid for goodness sake offering 380 horsepower and 428 lb/ft torque. It totally is a beast. And a beautiful beast at that.

The new ’11 Supercharged Touareg has all of the luxury features you want…STANDARD!  That’s right, standard. Like the amazing view of the huge panoramic sunroof that sits over both the front and rear seat passengers. Plus it comes with luxurious Vienna leather seating surfaces and  jaw-dropping flashy in-dash technology that will have you mesmerized for hours.

As you may already know, a hybrid achieves its energy efficiency by combining the use of an internal combustion engine with an electric motor. The Touareg Hybrid also uses technologies like regenerative braking, which helps replenish the battery by using kinetic energy produced by the brakes. For immediate power off the line, boost mode supplies maximum outputs from both the electric motor and combustion engine. [VW]

Check out this video:

Now that’s a beast. A supercharged hybrid beast that is.

The new vehicle is a full hybrid, making it theoretically capable of traveling one mile — at speeds of up to 30 miles per hour — on batteries alone. In practice, the gasoline engine takes over much earlier in a seamless handoff that helps the Touareg to 60 miles per hour in 6.2 seconds.

The Touareg hybrid also comes with a start-stop system that shuts the engine down when the vehicle stops, plus a coasting feature that disengages the engine from the transmission when the driver lifts off the gas pedal while traveling at high speed. German engineers call it “sailing.” [The Wheel Deal]

The all-new 2011 Volkswagen Touareg Supercharged Hybrid is simply amazing. If you’re interested in a Volkswagen you should go check out the great folks at Hiley VW.
